Royse-Gandy papers, 1837-1918 (bulk 1864-1865)

Correspondence, certificates, and a photograph. The bulk of the correspondence, 1864-1866, is courtship letters between Royse and Gandy while Royse served in the Civil War and taught school. Other items include the 1862 Memphis bill of sale of a slave, Royse's 1863 discharge so he could reenlist as a veteran, a carte de visite, and a 1918 letter from Leavenworth, Ind., mentioning war deaths and deaths from influenza.
